Illustrator, Graphic Designer, and Mini Story Enthusiast

I’m Laxmi Prasad Wachman, and I love to imagine. Really, I do. I love to imagine, and I believe in magic. That’s the heart of every story I illustrate.

I was born and raised in Lucknow, India, a city recently celebrated as a Creative Gastronomy City by UNESCO a place where colors, flavors, and creativity dances together in the most delightful ways. From a very young age, I couldn’t stop exploring: embroidery, glass painting, oil painting, dancing, music… you name it! For the longest time, I didn’t realize that all this curiosity and playfulness could someday become my life’s work.

After graduating as a graphic designer, I worked in design including (my favorite) hospitality design and tried to keep a foot in the “real world.” But the illustrator in me was waiting. When I got my first iPad, everything changed. I picked up my stylus and, bit by bit, I began to illustrate my dreams, bringing characters and magical worlds to life in ways I had only imagined as a child. Slowly, that long-held dream became my reality.

I also love learning languages! I enjoy speaking different languages, including broken French, dabble a bit in German, and love to try Mandarin, Korean, and even broken Japanese. I guess I’m endlessly curious about the world, and every language feels like a new door to a story waiting to be explored and told.

Today, I am a children’s book illustrator, and I get to spend my days coloring, imagining, and laughing along with the stories I help tell. I also love to write little stories of my own funny, heartwarming, or sprinkled with a little magic. I’m represented by D4EO Literary Agency, USA, and when I’m not drawing but dreaming up new tales, I talk to my wonderful American husband, watch him play with our mischievous cat Jiji, and we laugh at the stupid yet hilarious stories I come up with while he tries to find logic in them. Someday, we hope to share these stories with the world.
